I'll be honest with you. Just yesterday I didn't know anything about the Nostr protocol, even though it's been around for a while and has a strong following in narrow circles.
So what made me discover it? My situation was very simple. I was working with Claude Cowork and I learned about its social media automation capabilities. You can literally ask it in one prompt to do anything. Publish news on schedule, even like other users' posts and leave comments. Of course I took advantage of this to free up some of my time from routine and automate part of my work on social media.

Just imagine how cool this is. Say you're a photographer and you've taken 100 amazing shots. You need to show them to the world. Every day you have to log into your social network and spend time coming up with descriptions, hashtags, interesting captions for each picture. Instead of focusing on what you love, you're spending your life on social media and useless routine that just takes your time. An AI agent can do all of this better. Everyone wins. You, because your blog is working for you and promoting your creativity, your photography, growing your followers, getting you known, and you don't have to sit in your phone for hours every day. The audience interested in photography gets great content and discovers your work. The platforms get good content. Seems like the future, right? What could go wrong?
Meta provides the API for automation, but bans you for using it. Yes, I got banned a couple of days after I turned automation on.
Meta destroyed my Threads account. All the content. All the effort. All the followers. Just deleted me and everything I'd built as if I never existed. Just because I got familiar with Claude Cowork technology and explored ways to make my life easier on social media. No spam, no aggressive automation, just a few automated posts and a bit of activity.

Yes, you can say "Meta bans any automation, that's their rule." Sure. But that's exactly the global existential problem. They give you the API, they use all the cutting-edge technology, and yet they're not ready for users to actually use that technology. It's easier for them to shut down your accounts and trade your attention than to genuinely build a new future.
After this I was completely done with Meta. Because once you see what automation can actually do, you can't unsee it. You can't go back. I have a ton of great content that's been piling up over many days. I don't want to spend years of my life manually posting it to share with the world.
Nobody's denying that AI can be harmful in some scenarios. It can be used for spam, for AI slop, all of that. But there's another side. When AI is used thoughtfully and with intelligence. People have the right to choose who they follow. And it doesn't matter how content reaches the feed, through AI automation or manually, what matters is the content itself and its value. This is what humanity has to go through. Learning to work with automation. It's going to become part of our lives. You don't have to run your social media entirely by hand anymore. Focus on your work and your projects. AI will help with the rest. This is available today.
And it was after this realization, when I understood that I don't own my content, that a corporation can take everything away from me in one day, that I have no right to automate, I realized this can't go on. I started looking for platforms that accept automation, and among them I found the game-changer protocol Nostr. This is the future.

And the best thing that could have happened is the emergence of the Nostr protocol.
So what does it do, briefly? It's something between crypto and torrents.
You get your unique cryptographic key that holds all your content and data. It belongs to you and only you. Anyone can build anything around your content. Apps, clients, websites. Imagine you're opening a radio broadcast point and transmitting on your own frequency. Nobody can silence it, delete it, ban it. Hundreds of platforms can tune into your signal. When you publish a post on one, it appears on dozens of social networks automatically, because they all listen to your channel and broadcast it. That's how it works in simple terms.
After I learned what Nostr is, it completely changed how I think about owning your content, setting your own rules, and using modern AI without restrictions.

Why Nostr?
Nostr is a massive opportunity for everyone who participates in the protocol. People can build their own social networks, clients, apps.

They can create all kinds of concepts without being limited by corporate rules. You can spin up a website in a second with one AI prompt that generates it from your profile and content.

The protocol also has encrypted messages built in, where you can easily have private conversations.

You can't ban this. You can't stop this. It exists as a technology, like the internet itself. Something you can't control. Which means you stay accessible. You can always be found. One address is all it takes. Your audience is yours. Your content is yours. Your key is yours. Just don't lose it.
This is why I'm strongly recommending everyone to look into the Nostr protocol and try it.
Personally I recommend nostr.blog. It's the simplest entry point into Nostr. Type a name, pay with Lightning, get your keys, start publishing. No hex strings, no confusing setup. Just a clean interface that makes Nostr feel like home from minute one. Your content lives on relays you choose. Your identity is verified with a human-readable address. Your audience follows you across every Nostr client automatically. You can write yourself or let AI do it for you. No algorithms deciding who sees you. No bans. No permission needed.
This is what publishing should have been from the beginning. Now it finally is.
Nostr.blog is not just another Nostr client.

Nostr.blog
What you see in the screenshots. A built-in lo-fi player with 55 tracks so you can write with music. A terminal for power users with commands like query, sub, post, reply, repost for direct protocol access from your browser. A relay manager with real-time ping, so you can see which relay is fast, which one lags, and configure read/write/DM separately for each. A media library organized like Finder with filters by source (posts, articles, profile), by type, favorites, and file search. Zaps analytics show your zap conversion rate, the percentage of posts that earned sats. A wallet right inside the dashboard via NWC, balance and history in one click. All of this inside one interface, switching between modules through a launchpad like on a Mac.
FAQ
What is Nostr?
Nostr is an open protocol for decentralized publishing. Think of it as email for social media. Nobody owns it. Nobody controls it. Anyone can build on top of it. Your identity is a cryptographic key, your content lives on relays you choose, and no company can take any of it away from you.
How is this different from X, Threads, or Instagram?
Those are platforms. You rent space on them. They can ban you, delete your content, sell your data, change the rules overnight. Nostr is a protocol. You own your identity. You own your content. You own your audience. Nobody can take any of it.
What do I need to get started?
Nothing. No email, no phone number, no ID. Go to nostr.blog, pick a name, pay with Lightning, and you have a full Nostr identity in under two minutes.
How much does it cost?
Starts at $9 per year for a nostr.blog address. Premium domains go up from there. Nostr itself is free forever. You pay for the convenience of a readable address and a polished client, not for the right to exist online.
What is Lightning and how do I pay?
Lightning is a fast, cheap Bitcoin payment network. If you don't have a wallet yet, nostr.blog will walk you through installing Wallet of Satoshi. Top it up with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a credit card. The whole thing takes five minutes.
What are keys and why do they matter?
Instead of a password, Nostr uses a pair of cryptographic keys. Your public key is your identity (like a username anyone can see). Your private key is your password (never share it with anyone, ever). These keys are generated in your browser when you sign up. We never see them. If you lose your private key, nobody can recover it for you. That's the tradeoff for true ownership.
Can I automate my posts?
Yes. That's the whole point. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or any AI agent and let it write, schedule, and publish for you. On Nostr this is a feature, not a violation.
Can I get banned?
Not from the protocol. Ever. Individual clients or relays might choose not to show your content, but your identity and posts always exist, and any other client can read them. You can't be silenced.
Where do my posts actually live?
On public servers called relays. You choose which ones to use. Your content gets copied to multiple relays automatically, so if one disappears, your posts are safe on the others.
Can I move my account to another platform?
Yes. Your keys are your identity. Log in with the same keys on Primal, Damus, Amethyst, or any other Nostr client, and your profile, followers, and content are right there. No migration needed.
Is my content private?
Public posts are public, just like any social network. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted using NIP-44. Even the relays can't read your DMs. Only you and the recipient can.
How do people find me?
With your readable address, like nostr.blog/yourname. Works in every Nostr client. It's also your Lightning address, so people can send you Bitcoin directly to the same handle.
What if I lose my key?
Back it up. Seriously. Your key is your identity. We give you a downloadable backup file during signup. Save it somewhere safe. Without it, your account is gone forever. This is the price of true ownership.
Why does paying filter spam?
Spammers can't economically attack a network where every account costs real money. $9 per year per account kills bot farms. No throwaway accounts, no mass spam, no fake engagement.
