Information checked July 18, 2026. The useful Oura Ring alternative is not the ring with the longest feature list. It is the one that works with your phone, survives your charging routine, fits before the return deadline, and lets you retrieve and remove your health data on terms you can accept.
This guide compares Samsung Galaxy Ring, RingConn Gen 3, and Ultrahuman Ring AIR with the current Oura Ring 5 as the reference point. It does not award a universal winner. HUMAI did not wear these rings, run an accuracy study, or compare them with clinical equipment. Device specifications and account controls below come from provider documentation. The checks later in the article are for the reader to perform inside the applicable return window.
Hardware prices are intentionally absent. Live storefront totals vary by country, finish, promotion, tax, and retailer, and even official entry pages can show different offers. Confirm the final amount at checkout. Recurring access costs are included where the provider states them clearly.
Screen the shortlist before buying
| Ring | Phone and account | Access after purchase | Published battery range | Direct-order fit and return boundary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oura Ring 5 | iOS 16 or later, or Android 11 or later with Google Play services; Bluetooth 5.0 and an Oura account | Detailed features require Oura Membership. Without it, access contracts to three daily scores, battery, settings, profile basics, and Explore content. | Typically 6 to 9 days, with results dependent on size, settings, features, battery age, and use | Sizes 6 to 13 with its own kit. Direct orders can be returned or exchanged within 30 days if functional and undamaged, but only one return or exchange is allowed per item. |
| Samsung Galaxy Ring | Android 11 or later with at least 1.5 GB memory; Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health, and a Samsung account. Galaxy Wearable is not supported on iOS. | Samsung says Galaxy Ring data and insights are available in Samsung Health without a subscription. Some Galaxy AI, gesture, and find features require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone. | Up to 7 days for sizes 12 and 13; up to 6 days for smaller sizes; actual results vary | Sizes 5 to 15, market permitting. Samsung recommends at least 24 hours in the sizing sample. The current US return window is 15 days and a 5 percent restocking fee may apply to a size-change return. |
| RingConn Gen 3 | iOS 17 or later or Android 10 or later; Bluetooth 5.0; Apple Health and Health Connect integrations are listed | No subscription is required for the app features listed with Gen 3. | 10 to 12 days with vibration on, or 11 to 14 days with vibration off | Sizes 6 to 15 and a generation-specific kit. The detailed policy limits a 14-day return to stated defect, damage, wrong-color, or material-description reasons and says the returned product must be unopened and unused. |
| Ultrahuman Ring AIR | iOS 15 or later or Android 6 or later; an Ultrahuman account and app | No recurring fee is required to access ring data. UltrahumanX is a separate optional coverage plan. | About 4 to 6 days under standard use; the provider also warns of gradual battery decline after 1 to 2 years | Sizes 5 to 14 with its own kit. Current US terms allow a return within 30 days of delivery with the original accessories and packaging; regional law and seller terms still control. |
These are provider claims, not HUMAI results. A battery maximum does not tell you what your size, settings, temperature, signal quality, or aging cell will deliver. A return banner is not the whole return contract. The RingConn product page advertises 14-day returns and exchanges, while its detailed policy is much narrower. Read the controlling policy before paying.
Compatibility removes most wrong choices
Start with the phone you will still own a year from now. Galaxy Ring is the immediate rejection for an iPhone user. It can pair with supported non-Samsung Android phones, but Samsung's compatibility notes reserve some functions for Galaxy devices. If Energy Score, Find My Ring, or gesture control matters, verify the exact phone model and software combination on the purchase day.
Oura, RingConn, and Ultrahuman publish both iPhone and Android routes, but their minimum operating systems differ. “Works with Android” is too vague for an older handset, a phone without Google Play services, or an employer-managed device that blocks background sync. Check the app-store listing on the intended phone, available Bluetooth permission, background activity rules, and whether the health hub you use appears in the provider's current integration list.
An integration logo is not a data-completeness promise. Before committing, write down the five fields you expect to leave the ring's app, such as sleep intervals, resting heart rate, temperature trend, steps, or workouts. Confirm each field after pairing. If the destination receives only a subset, decide whether the provider app can remain your primary record.
Price the service, not only the ring
Oura is the only option in this comparison with a required recurring payment for its detailed current experience. As of the check date, the Oura Membership page lists US membership at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year, and EU membership at 5.99 euros per month or 69.99 euros per year, plus applicable tax. Other regions use local pricing. A new member gets one included month. There is no pause option, and prepaid or annual membership does not receive a partial refund after cancellation.
Cancellation and deletion are different actions. Canceling Oura Membership leaves the account data stored and preserves access to a full export through the Membership Hub. Returning the ring also does not cancel the membership automatically, so those must be handled separately.
Samsung, RingConn, and Ultrahuman state that their core ring-data experience has no subscription. That does not make ownership cost zero after checkout. Optional protection, a second charger, return postage, import duties, a replacement after loss, or a worn battery can matter more than a monthly app fee.
Use a plain budget line before purchase: checkout total plus tax and delivery, plus required membership for the intended ownership period, plus accessories and optional coverage. Keep promotional credit and trade-in value separate because they may be reversed when an order is returned.
Fit and return are one decision
A normal jewelry size is not a safe shortcut. Oura Ring 5 has a different kit from Ring 4. RingConn Gen 3 differs from earlier RingConn generations. Samsung and Ultrahuman also direct buyers to their own samples. None offers half sizes in the documentation reviewed here.
Wear the correct plastic sample for at least one full day and one night before submitting a size. Include the warmest part of the day, ordinary hand washing, desk work, and sleep. The ring should stay in sensor contact without pinching, rotating freely, or becoming difficult to remove when fingers swell. This is a reader-run comfort check, not a claim that the plastic sample perfectly reproduces the finished ring.
Return rights determine how much experimentation is sensible. Oura's direct policy permits a functional, undamaged return but closes the refund route after an exchange. Samsung US provides a short request window and may charge a restocking fee. RingConn's detailed policy is not a wear-and-decide trial. Ultrahuman's current direct US terms are more permissive, but still require the packaging and accessories. A marketplace or local retailer can substitute entirely different rules.
Save a PDF or screenshot of the seller, delivery date, return deadline, fee, condition standard, and included items. That record is purchase evidence, not a product-performance screenshot. If the policy cannot be understood before checkout, do not use the order itself to discover it.
Run a return-window protocol
The following is a prospective reader-run check. It is not a HUMAI test result and does not compare medical accuracy.
- Freeze the contract. Save the order, hardware warranty, subscription terms, privacy notice, and return policy with the date and region.
- Verify the intended phone. Pair with the phone you will actually use. Confirm background sync after a normal day rather than keeping the app open for the demonstration.
- Inspect comfort. Stop if the finished ring pinches, traps moisture, leaves a mark that does not fade soon after removal, or catches during ordinary work. Do not wear it next to another ring or while lifting heavy metal objects.
- Log your own charging interval. Charge fully, use only the features you intend to keep, and record time and remaining charge once daily. Pass only if the observed routine includes enough margin for your longest normal period away from a charger.
- Check useful data, not every score. Pick three decisions the ring is meant to inform. Confirm that the underlying trend is visible and that missing nights or off-finger periods are understandable.
- Make an export. Request or download the available personal data and open the files. Verify the date range, field names, timestamps, units, and whether the records you care about are actually present.
- Map deletion before using integrations. Locate the account, health-data, and device-reset controls. List every connected service that would retain its own copy. Do not delete the account merely to prove the button works while you are still evaluating the ring.
- Decide before the deadline. Return the ring if fit, phone support, charging, export, deletion terms, or recurring cost misses a written requirement. Leave time for approval and shipping rather than starting on the final day.
Do not compare your battery log with another reader's as if it were a controlled benchmark. Its purpose is narrower: determine whether one ring meets your routine while you can still exit.
Data exit routes are not equivalent
| Provider | Export route | Deletion route | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oura | All users can request personal data from Membership Hub; preparation may take up to 10 days. Active members also have report and API options. | The app can delete a health-data date range or the whole account and its data. | Copies already sent to Apple Health, Health Connect, Strava, or another integration must be deleted there separately. |
| Samsung | Samsung Health has a Download personal data command that saves files to the phone. | Samsung Health can erase personal data held on the device and Samsung Health server. | Erasing health data and resetting the physical ring for another phone are separate procedures. |
| RingConn | The April 2026 app privacy policy provides access and portability requests through app feedback or email. | Some information can be erased in the app; broader requests can go through app feedback or the data-protection email. | For the beta Blood Pressure Trends feature, the policy says individual physical deletion of raw PPG is not currently possible. Withdrawal stops new processing and isolates retained data, with later anonymization rules. |
| Ultrahuman | The privacy policy grants a portable-copy request, but does not document the same immediate in-app file flow as Samsung Health. | Deletion is requested through support. Certain legal, fraud-prevention, business, anonymized, or aggregated records may remain. | Ultrahuman says it cannot remove copies held by third parties and directs the user to contact them separately. |
“Export available” can mean a ready file, an account request, a report, or a legal portability process. Time the actual route before the return period closes. If you require immediate raw-sensor deletion, the RingConn app privacy policy makes its current Blood Pressure Trends beta a specific reason not to enable that feature. If you require a defined deletion deadline from any provider, obtain it in writing before purchase.
Consumer health apps are not automatically covered by HIPAA simply because they store heart, sleep, or cycle information. The US Federal Trade Commission advises consumers to examine what an app collects, how it uses and shares the data, and which controls exist. Treat phone backups and connected health platforms as separate copies in the exit plan.
Know when the ring must stop
These rings are wellness tools, not substitutes for diagnosis, treatment, or emergency monitoring. Oura says its ring is not a medical device. RingConn places the same boundary on Gen 3. Samsung states that its health tracking is for general wellness and fitness. Ultrahuman describes Ring AIR as measuring sleep, movement, and recovery; its separate M1 service uses a continuous glucose monitor.
A ring-derived “metabolic” insight is not a blood-glucose measurement. The US Food and Drug Administration says it has not authorized, cleared, or approved any smartwatch or smart ring that measures or estimates glucose on its own without piercing the skin. Anyone whose care depends on glucose readings needs an appropriate authorized device selected with a health professional.
Do not change medication, ignore symptoms, or intensify training solely because a daily score looks reassuring. A suspected breathing disorder, persistent rhythm concern, or unexplained change belongs with a qualified clinician and the appropriate clinical test. Urgent symptoms belong with local emergency services, not an app refresh.
Ask a clinician before purchase if you have an implanted device, a circulation problem in the fingers, a regular arrhythmia, or medication that changes cardiovascular signals. Oura specifically warns that these circumstances can produce gaps or altered heart-rate, HRV, and sleep information. Any ring that becomes unusually warm, cracked, sharp, or stuck should come off if it can be removed safely, with medical help sought when it cannot.
Who should not buy a smart ring
- An iPhone user considering Galaxy Ring. The required Galaxy Wearable route is not supported on iOS.
- Someone who needs a clinical answer. Buy or use the appropriate medical pathway, not a wellness score with a medical-sounding label.
- A person who needs live navigation, a screen, or detailed workout control. A watch, bike computer, or phone is a better form factor for visible guidance.
- Anyone unable to remove jewelry for heavy lifting or hands-on work. Providers warn against pressure, adjacent metal, and heavy objects; repeated removal may also leave too little useful wear time.
- A buyer unwilling to use the exact sizing kit. Short returns and generation-specific sizing make guesswork expensive.
- A user who needs a guaranteed immediate raw-data purge. Provider policies contain third-party, retention, and anonymization boundaries, and RingConn documents an additional beta-signal limitation.
- Someone expecting a serviceable battery for many years. Smart rings contain small sealed rechargeable cells. Ultrahuman explicitly anticipates decline, and Oura describes its battery as non-replaceable.
Choose by the failure you can accept
Keep Oura in the running when its cross-platform app, current export controls, and established membership model are acceptable. Choose Galaxy Ring only when Android compatibility is settled and the Samsung account, short regional return window, and Galaxy-only extras fit. Consider RingConn Gen 3 when its published long charging interval and subscription-free app matter more than a permissive try-and-return policy, and only after accepting its data-policy details. Consider Ultrahuman Ring AIR when broad phone support, no ring-data subscription, and the direct return terms fit better than its shorter published battery range and stated aging boundary.
That is not a ranking. It is a way to eliminate the ring whose failure mode would bother you most. Recheck the phone requirements, plan, return policy, privacy notice, and storefront on the day you order. Then complete the export and exit review before the refund clock runs out.
